Dinner and a DVD: Ant-Man

antonyThe days between Christmas and New Year’s are a good time to catch up on movies; with friends and family visiting, there’s going to be a lot of cooking and entertaining. It’s for moments like these that we started the “Dinner and a DVD” series. So here’s another entry.

Ant-Man was a hugely popular entry in Marvel’s “Phase 2” series, adding more comedy to the mix, primarily in the brilliant casting of Paul Rudd as the hero and the hilarious Michael Pena as his buddy Luis. You can read my review of Ant-Man over at GeekDad, as well as a press panel with the cast.

One of things that worked well in the story is the family nature of Luis’ gang; there is a scene fairly early on where he shows his paternal feelings toward his little band of criminal friends by preparing a meal for them, specifically, waffles. So that’s where we start our menu. You could keep it simple and have “brinner” (breakfast for dinner) and serve waffles as your entree for movie night, but why not kick it up a notch?

As it happens, we have a pretty good recipe for Chicken & Waffles right here on Blue Collar, Black Tie.

Naturally, given that Luis is a bit of a wine snob, you should pair that dinner with a nice white wine of your choice. I’m sure you know a wine snob who can make a recommendation. Personally, I lean more toward what are usually considered dessert wines, like Riesling, but our favorite white is a Lambrusco, and it turns out a wine site agrees with me. Another alternative would be a hard cider, or, if you want to keep it non-alcoholic, root beer might hit the spot.
