Avengers: Age of Ultron is a solid and well-crafted film in which writer/director Joss Whedon displays a deft hand at juggling a huge cast of characters and alternating between quiet character moments and big loud explodey action sequences. Lots of big loud explodey action sequences across three continents.

Since I’m going to visit Skywalker Ranch next week, the fine folks at Lucasfilm are giving me and the others on the trip some special previews and features before the general public sees them; in fact, the general public won’t see them until we bloggers do our part and share them. So here we go, a little snippet from Strange Magic.

Once again I’m jetting off to the San Francisco Bay area for another sneak preview of some upcoming films, courtesy of the fine folks at Disney. On Monday, January 12, I and another couple dozen bloggers will pay a visit to the legendary Skywalker Ranch, George Lucas’ magic factory where Han Solo and Howard the …

Guardians of the Galaxy is the box office hit of the year, and the soundtrack album “Awesome Mix: Vol. 1” is selling like crazy, putting one-hit wonders like “Hooked on a Feeling” back on the charts, all of which raises the obvious question: What’s on Volume 2? We’ve done a little speculating and kicked around a few likely candidates, so here are our best guesses as to what Peter’s mom was likely to have put on the cassette for her little boy.

The Hundred-Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren, is an engaging new film from Dreamworks, which opens on August 8. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and based on the novel by Richard C. Morais, the story concerns a family from India that moves to France and opens up a restaurant directly across the street from Mirren’s upscale establishment, and the conflicts that result.

What food memory takes you home? What flavor or smell transports you to a long-ago time or place?
Baked custard is forever linked with my grandmother. Whether she came to our house, or we visited hers, there was always baked custard with nutmeg on top. She baked it in white milk glass custard cups. Custard and any food filled with custard remain my absolute favorite foods. My ultimate comfort food.
In honor of DreamWorks’ new film, The Hundred-Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren, we’ll be sharing recipes inspired by the film this week.

After Koop dropped us at home and headed on his way, Paul and I jumped into my car and went north. About 40 miles north of Pasadena, we arrived at Vasquez Rocks; you’ve seen it in dozens of movies from Stagecoach to the Flintstones. For the geeky, it’s where Captain Kirk fought the Gorn, and where the creepy insectoid “Xanti misfits” were left in another classic episode of Outer Limits.

Recently I was fortunate to receive an invitation to attend the Distinguished Speakers Series to hear Actor/Director Ron Howard speak.
It was great. He told lots of stories of growing up on camera, working with Andy Griffith, starring in Happy Days, making Cocoon and working with great old school Hollywood actors. He even took a selfie on stage. Ron Howard lived an extremely unusual life which he readily acknowledges. Not every 14 year old kid making movies in 8mm gets to show their work to Henry Fonda.
